Indications for use of No-shpa in the treatment of pancreatitis

No-Spa for pancreatitis of the pancreas is a first aid drug for moderate to severe pain. The drug is produced by the Hungarian pharmaceutical company Hinoin, registered in the 60s of the last century, and is known throughout the world. It has a pronounced antispasmodic effect, eliminates spasms, thereby eliminating pain, normalizing blood circulation and blood pressure.

general information

The drug is available in the form of yellow tablets . They have a round shape and a biconvex surface. On one side there is an engraving “spa”. The product is available in blisters or bottles of 6, 10, 12, 20, 24, 60, 64 or 100 tablets.

Each tablet contains 40 mg of the active substance - drotaverine hydrochloride, which is an antispasmodic agent, and auxiliary components: lactose monohydrate, corn starch, talc, povidone and magnesium stearate. They are necessary to prevent the destruction of the active substance and maintain the shape of the tablet.

“No-spa” is an antispasmodic agent that affects the smooth muscles of internal organs. The effect is achieved through the action on enzymes that provide contraction of muscle fibers. This explains the effectiveness of drotaverine for spasms associated with changes in the muscles or nervous system.

In addition to eliminating spastic contractions of muscle fibers, the drug improves blood supply to the organ by dilating blood vessels. Thanks to these effects, No-Spa can be used for pancreatitis to relieve pain.

When taken orally, the drug is quickly absorbed from the intestinal lumen and enters the bloodstream. The maximum concentration is reached an hour after consuming the drug. It takes 72 hours for the drug to be completely eliminated from the body.

Description of the product

The active component of the myotropic antispasmodic is drotaverine hydrochloride in the amount of 40 milligrams. The drug quickly relieves muscle spasms by suppressing the production of phosphodiesterase. As a result, the concentration of cyclic adenosine monophosphate increases, which ultimately leads to muscle relaxation.

Important: the drug inhibits the production of phosphodiesterase-4. The concentration of isoenzymes in tissues varies. Therefore, No-spa is effective specifically for pathologies of the digestive system.

At the same time, the synthesis of PDE-3 is not disrupted, which explains the absence of side effects. It is also important to note that with the help of the drug it is possible to relieve spasms caused by both impaired innervation and other physiological factors.

The drug is highly digestible and quickly helps relieve the symptoms of pancreatitis

Regardless of the specific form in which the drug is prescribed for pancreatitis, its maximum amount in the blood is determined after an hour and is 65% of the total dose. The active components easily bind to proteins, are evenly distributed in muscle tissue, but do not penetrate the barriers of the nervous system. A certain amount of the drug may pass through the placenta during pregnancy. No-spa is completely metabolized. After a few hours it is excreted by the kidneys and liver. Active components are not detected in urine unchanged.

When is the medicine prescribed?

Speaking about whether No-Spa treats lesions of the pancreas, doctors note that the drug is used for various medical indications:

  • spastic contractions of the smooth muscles of the biliary tract. A similar spasm is observed with cholangitis, papillitis, cholecystitis, pericholecystitis, cholangiolithiasis, etc.;
  • spasm of the smooth muscles of the ureters, bladder and urethra;
  • spastic contractions of the muscles of the gastrointestinal tract (esophagus, stomach and sphincters in the intestines);
  • dysmenorrhea;
  • tension headaches that occur due to overwork.

There are no special instructions for the use of the drug. Doctors say it is well tolerated by patients at any age.

Features of action for pancreatitis

One of the basic symptoms of pancreatic inflammation is pain. The reasons for its occurrence are several main factors:

  • obstruction of the main excretory duct of the gland due to spasm of the so-called sphincter of Oddi - a muscular ring with an opening through which pancreatic juice and bile flow into the duodenum,
  • abnormal stretching of the capsule of the inflamed organ,
  • reflex spasm of the bile ducts and gallbladder,
  • spasmodic contractions in the small intestine.

In acute attacks of pancreatitis, cutting, often unbearable, girdle pain can lead the patient to a state of painful shock and death. To relieve the intensity of pain and prevent shock, antispasmodics are immediately used to relax the muscle ring of Oddi, eliminate obstruction of the excretory ducts and open the way for juice and bile into the small intestine. An acute attack of pancreatitis requires injection of medicinal solutions that have a powerful and accelerated therapeutic effect.

In case of mild dull pain and absence of vomiting, medications to relax the smooth muscles of the abdominal organs and eliminate pain are prescribed antispasmodics in the form of tablets.

Contraindications

The medication has a number of contraindications that limit its use. These include the following conditions:

  • renal or liver failure with severe course;
  • a sharp decrease in cardiac output due to heart failure;
  • patient age up to six years;
  • breastfeeding period;
  • the patient has hereditary galactose intolerance;
  • allergic reactions or individual intolerance to the components of the drug.

If the drug needs to be prescribed to a child or pregnant woman, it should be taken only under medical supervision.

Usage diagram

For treatment to be effective, it is important for the patient to know how to take No-shpa for pancreatitis. The drug is prescribed to reduce the severity of spasm of the smooth muscles of the pancreatic ducts and improve the outflow of its secretions.

Attention! Only the attending physician should prescribe the drug and select a treatment regimen. He conducts a comprehensive examination of the patient, determines treatment tactics and dosage of antispasmodics.

Patients may be concerned about whether it is possible to take Pancreatin with No-shpa for acute pancreatitis. Doctors note that the use of antispasmodics in this case should be carried out in the form of intramuscular injections. The use of tablet forms of the drug is unjustified due to frequent vomiting in patients.

Therapy begins with the injection of 2 ml of the drug into the gluteal muscle . If the drug must be administered intravenously, it is mixed with 8-10 ml of water for injection. During the day, the maximum permissible dose is 240 mg. It is equivalent to using six tablets. The tableted drug can be used for acute pancreatitis without vomiting and for the chronic form of the pathology.

When using antispasmodics, you should remember how many days you can drink “No-shpa” for pancreatitis. Doctors recommend not taking drugs in this group for more than 3-4 days, as this can lead to a decrease in blood pressure and other negative consequences.

Destination Features

Children over six years of age can take the medication. This is due to the fact that a young child cannot swallow the pill on his own. If you crush it and mix it with tea or water, then “No-shpu” can be used at any age. However, the dosage of the drug is reduced. A child under two years old is prescribed ⅓ of the tablet, and up to six years old - ½. At the same time, the effectiveness of the antispasmodic is maintained while the risk of side effects is reduced. The permissible daily dosage for children is 120 mg.

to pregnant women when the potential health benefits outweigh the possible risks. Use during breastfeeding is contraindicated due to the fact that the medicine enters the baby's body with mother's milk.

The use of antispasmodics in the elderly is limited by concomitant pathology. If the patient has severe damage to the liver, kidneys or heart, the drug is not prescribed. In this case, therapy is carried out with its analogues.

No-spa in the complex treatment of pancreatitis

The duration of use of the drug for pancreatitis is 1-3 days. The decision about the possibility of extending the use of tablets should be made by a specialist.

In addition to no-shpa, a different number of drugs are used in the treatment of pancreatitis. It is important that the interaction of the drugs does not cause harm to the human body. It is necessary to take into account possible concomitant diseases and medications taken in parallel by the patient.

Sometimes, in severe cases of the disease, they resort to prescribing two antispasmodics at the same time. Similar tactics are used in the acute phase of the disease to quickly relieve pain. The simultaneous administration of no-shpa and opioid drugs reduces the effectiveness of the latter.

Since vomiting is a common symptom of acute pancreatitis, prescribing the drug in tablets may not be advisable. It is better to prescribe no-shpa intramuscularly or intravenously.

The drug can be administered intravenously. This form of administration is especially effective for persistent vomiting and associated severe dehydration of the patient. It is allowed to administer the drug by drip by dissolving the drug in 200 ml of physiological solution. The rate of administration should not exceed 60-80 drops per minute.

If the patient's condition allows the drug to be taken orally, it is allowed to use No-Spa Forte in tablets. The tablets contain 80 mg of the drug instead of the standard 40. The drug is taken not three times a day, but twice. Remember, the medicine in tablets has a pronounced bitter taste and can cause a repeated attack of vomiting. For patients with complaints of nausea, it is better to use the medicine orally.

The maximum dose of the drug during the day should not exceed 6 tablets of standard dosage or 3 tablets of forte.

The final decision on how to take the drug, in what form to administer and the number of times per day, is made by the attending physician!

Side effects and overdose

If you try to use an antispasmodic drug on your own or fail to follow your doctor’s recommendations, the drug can lead to side effects:

  • Dizziness, insomnia and diffuse headaches may occur;
  • with prolonged use, blood pressure levels may decrease and tachycardia may occur;
  • dyspepsia: nausea, constipation, etc.;
  • allergic reactions in the form of urticaria, skin itching and rash.

Taking a large dose of the drug at the same time can lead to an overdose. Its main symptom is cardiac arrhythmia of varying severity. Treatment is based on a symptomatic approach and gastric lavage.

Drotaverine is not recommended for use with drugs for the treatment of Parkinson's disease, as the effectiveness of the latter may be reduced. If the drug is prescribed together with other antispasmodics, their effects are enhanced, which increases the risk of developing adverse drug reactions.

additional information

The drug is stored at temperatures below 25 ° C in a dry and dark place . The shelf life of tablets in blister packs is three years, and in bottles – five years. The medication is dispensed from the pharmacy without a prescription.

There are various analogues of the drug with an antispasmodic effect: “Papaverine”, “Meverine”, “Duspatalin”, “Drotaverine”, etc. They differ from each other in the active substance and place of production.

Important! It is unacceptable to independently replace No-shpu prescribed by a doctor with its analogues. This may lead to low treatment effectiveness.

Reviews

I was diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis five years ago. Every year there are about six exacerbations, and I experience severe pain and nausea. The doctor advised me to use the antispasmodic “No-shpa” and told me in detail how to take it. I started using it for acute pain syndrome. The pain goes away within 1-2 hours.

Olga, 45 years old.

Reviews of “No-shpe” for pancreatitis are positive from most doctors and patients. Therefore, we recommend the use of this antispasmodic for patients with acute pain associated with spasm of the pancreatic ducts. The drug is highly effective and safe for people of any age.

No-spa for pancreatitis: how to take?

How to take the drug correctly must be determined by your attending physician. It is necessary to take into account the severity of the disease, general health, and the presence of contraindications.

In case of acute pancreatitis, No-Spa will help relieve an attack of pain. Drotaverine is good because it does not blur the clinical picture. Therefore, you can drink the medicine before the ambulance arrives.

If an exacerbation of the disease is accompanied by vomiting, taking the pills will not bring the expected result. Then an injection is given, and in case of severe vomiting and dehydration, an IV is given.

Intramuscular administration of the drug in the treatment of acute pancreatitis can provoke heart failure, so it is carried out only while lying down. For the same reason, intravenous administration is carried out slowly, for at least 5 minutes.

Exacerbation of chronic pancreatitis is fraught with serious consequences, therefore it is not recommended to treat it on your own, only by relieving the pain syndrome. You should not take No-shpa on your own for more than two days. Further complex treatment should be prescribed by the attending physician.

Quickly and permanently relieve spasms without causing side effects - these are the basic requirements for antispasmodic drugs. Hungarian pharmacists were working on this issue when in 1961 they managed to synthesize a new drug.

After testing, it turned out that this is a significantly more effective drug compared to previously used ones. The name itself speaks about the effect of the drug: “No-shpa” is translated from Latin as “no spasm”.

More than half a century has passed since then, and No-shpa for pancreatitis has earned the trust of treating doctors and patients.
