Composition and release form
Drotaverine is available in two forms:
- ampoules (injection solutions);
- pills.
The active ingredient is drotaverine hydrochloride. Each of the forms is absolutely identical in the amount of active ingredient - 40 mg contains one tablet and ampoule.
Drotaverine is produced by many pharmaceutical companies, the purpose and use of which do not affect the quality of the drug itself, they simply indicate a difference in the company of release.
That’s why Drotaverine has many names:
- Drotaverine - Teva;
- Drotaverine - Ellara;
- Drotaverine – Forte;
- Drotaverine – FPO;
- Drotaverine;
- Vero - Drotaverine.

When buying Drotaverine from Darnitsa or any other, you should not worry about the quality of the product, since in all companies it is selected and has the same qualities, so domestic or even foreign packaging will contain the same drug, which does not differ from each other.
Use during pregnancy and lactation
Drotaverine hydrochloride, the active substance, is able to penetrate the hematoplacental barrier. In other words, this component of the drug can have a direct effect on the fetus and in one way or another influence its development. A specialist may prescribe medication if the hypothetical benefit for the pregnant woman is higher than the potential threat to the child.
During breastfeeding, you should avoid taking Drotaverine, since it passes into mother's milk and, accordingly, is passed on to the baby. If refusal is impossible, then you need to think about temporarily stopping breastfeeding and transferring the child to artificial formula.
Often, medicine can be prescribed during premature birth, to relieve the tone of the uterus (this will stabilize the condition if there is a threat of miscarriage and will help promptly and without harm to the mother’s health to begin all the necessary auxiliary actions), as well as in the period after childbirth to stop contractions.
Whether Drotaverine can be prescribed to children is an open question. Some pediatricians and therapists are against therapy using this medicine and strongly recommend using it only after reaching 12 years of age, while others believe that the drug will not cause harm and prescribe it from 5-6 years of age. In any case, the treatment process with this medicine should be under the constant supervision of the attending physician.

Mode of application
The drug Drotaverit can be taken in tablets and ampoules.
It is important how to take the medicine - before or after meals. The tablets are taken immediately after meals, even after a small snack you can take the medicine. These tablets should not be chewed, only swallowed with water. It doesn’t matter how you take the injections in relation to food. For intravenous and intra-arterial administration, Drotaverine should be diluted with 20 mg of physiological solution; for other injections, a regular solution of Drotaverine is suitable. The injections must be given by a specialist.

Drotaverine - what are these tablets for, who should take them and how?
Quite often, patients ask doctors the question of what Drotaverine helps with and in what specific cases it is indicated.
This synthetic medicine is intended to relieve pain resulting from a malfunction of internal organs.
The drug has an antispasmodic and vasodilating effect, reduces excessive activity of intestinal contractions, and reduces blood pressure.
It is widely used for the following diseases:
- cholecystitis;
- liver spasm;
- biliary dyskinesia;
- urolithiasis disease;
- gastroduodenitis;
- cystitis;
- pyelitis;
- gastritis and others.
What does Drotaverine tablets help with?
What Drotaverine is, what these tablets are for - this issue needs to be carefully understood before stocking up on the medicine.
The medication has an antispasmodic, vasodilator, myotropic, hypotensive effect.
Regardless of what drug Drotaverine is taken, it reduces the amount of active ionized calcium, which enters smooth muscle cells and is quickly absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract.
The great advantage of the drug is that Drotaverine, no matter what you take these tablets for, does not affect the autonomic and central nervous systems. That is, taking the drug does not disrupt the normal rhythm of life and does not dull reactions. In this case, the pills begin to act within about 12 minutes, after they enter the body and dissolve there.
Drotaverine for pain
This is the first answer that comes to mind: Drotaverine - what are these tablets for? From pain.
The miraculous antispasmodic mechanism is directly related to the ability of the drug to change the potentials of cell membranes and their permeability.
The same effect can be achieved with spasms of different origins - both nervous and muscle. You can take Drotaverine for headaches of any nature and expect a positive result.
Drotaverine on temperature
For many, this drug is purely an anesthetic, but in fact, Drotaverine hydrochloride can also be used instead of an antipyretic. Moreover, the medicine works no worse than the main remedies for fever. The secret is that the medicine has a vasodilating effect. Thanks to this, the temperature quickly “leaves” from the body, evaporates, to put it simply.
Drotaverine for blood pressure
The vasodilating effect makes it possible to use the drug Drotaverine during pressure surges. When the vessels narrow, the tissues and organs that feed through them begin to starve - they do not receive as much oxygen as they need. Drotaverine helps restore normal blood circulation and thereby put the whole body in order.
Drotaverine for cough
This is one of the most unexpected, but no less effective uses of the product.
When remembering the medicine Drotaverine, what these tablets help with, cough is the last thing that comes to mind, but the drug actually helps with this problem. When spasms are painful and interfere with sleep.
To get rid of them, you need the drug Drotaverine in the amount of two pills and one tablet of Suprastin. This composition will clear up your cough in a matter of minutes and restore restful sleep.
Drotaverine for nausea
Some people who are keen on self-medication are sure that one of the problems for which Drotaverine is prescribed is nausea, and this issue needs to be clarified.
The fact is that it is dangerous to take any painkillers and Drotaverine, including for nausea and other gastrointestinal disorders. The reason is that poisoning is always accompanied by excessive gas formation.
Antispasmodics relax smooth muscles, thereby making it even more difficult for gases to escape. That is, they not only do not help, but even worsen the condition and well-being.
Side effects
The drug can cause a number of side effects on the human body in certain cases:
- dizziness;
- nausea;
- insomnia;
- feeling of heat;
- sweating;
- increased heart rate;
- decreased blood pressure;
- collapse;
- anaphylactic shock.
Overdose
In case of an overdose of the drug, paralysis of the respiratory center and cardiac arrest are possible. It is necessary to immediately stop taking the drug, drink sorbents and begin symptomatic therapy to maintain vital functions.

Reviews
Camilla, Kyiv The stomach always hurts very much in the first days of menstruation. I used to take Ibuprofen or Spazmalgon, but then they stopped helping. I tried Drotaverine. It relieves pain well, not for long, but the main thing is to get through the first day. They will drink it for now, but maybe the body will get used to it.
Valeria, Kremenchug As long as I can remember, my mother gave these pills for headaches and then for abdominal pain (when she got older). The pills have always helped well, and they still work well. I sometimes drink a couple of times a month if necessary, and everything goes away quickly.
Nikolai, Vinnitsa I often have a headache (noisy work). I take pills sometimes, and they help quickly. The main thing, I think, is not to be overzealous, suddenly I’ll get used to it, and then they won’t help, but so far everything is good. I take one tablet during the day, and the pain quickly goes away and does not return.
