Colitis is a very common pathology, which is accompanied by the formation of foci of inflammation in the tissues of the large intestine. The inflammatory process can have different origins, but its progression negatively affects a person’s well-being and the general condition of the body. What symptoms are accompanied by the disease? Is it possible to treat colitis with folk remedies? The answers to these questions are of interest to many patients faced with a similar disease.
It is worth understanding that without a doctor’s permission, you should under no circumstances begin treatment for colitis with folk remedies. The most effective medications can cause harm to the body if used incorrectly. Self-medication for such a pathology is extremely dangerous.
Causes of colitis development
Before considering alternative treatment for colitis (chronic or acute), you need to learn more about the causes of the disease.
Colitis is a pathology associated with inflammation of the mucous membranes of the large intestine. The disease can be either acute or chronic. Moreover, inflammation takes on various forms, accompanied by the formation of erosive areas, ulcers or even areas of atrophy of the mucous membranes.
The causes of colitis can also be varied. Risk factors include infectious intestinal lesions and serious nutritional disorders. Colitis is often the result of severe toxic poisoning, systemic allergic reactions, mechanical effects, and taking certain medications. In any case, during the diagnostic process, it is important to find out what exactly triggered the development of the inflammatory process and eliminate the influence of risk factors.
What symptoms should you pay attention to?
The clinical picture in this case depends on what exactly triggered the development of colitis and what the nature of the inflammatory process is. However, some common symptoms can still be identified:
- heaviness in the abdomen, pain in the stomach;
- stool disorders (in most cases, patients complain of constant diarrhea, which is occasionally replaced by constipation);
- flatulence, bloating, rumbling in the stomach;
- unpleasant bitter taste in the mouth;
- fever, weakness (if we are talking about acute inflammation or infectious damage to the intestines);
- belching with an unpleasant odor;
- the appearance of mucus and blood impurities in the stool;
- weight loss, which is associated with dehydration and incomplete digestion of food.
The appearance of such disorders is a good reason to immediately consult a doctor and undergo a comprehensive diagnosis, and then drug therapy, which, if desired, can be supplemented with homemade medications.
Treatment of colitis with folk remedies: how will propolis help?
We have already reviewed basic information about the nature of the origin and signs of the disease. How is intestinal colitis treated with folk remedies? Healers for such a disease recommend using propolis. The fact is that this product has pronounced anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. Moreover, it triggers tissue regeneration processes, which accelerates the healing of mucous membranes in ulcerative colitis.
For internal use, alcohol tincture of propolis is used. In folk medicine, 10%, 20% and 30% solutions are used, but it’s worth starting with 10%. If you immediately take too large a dose of this drug, there is a high probability of developing allergic reactions.
You can prepare the tincture at home. You need to start with a 10% tincture, so it is important to follow the proportions: for every 10 g of propolis, pour 100 ml of alcohol (its strength can range from 70 to 96%). It is recommended to mix the ingredients and pour them into a dark glass jar. The resulting solution is then infused in a place protected from sunlight for 2-5 days. The container needs to be shaken every day.
Traditional healers recommend taking 20-30 drops three times a day (by the way, it is better to do this an hour before meals). The solution should not be drunk in its pure form - it must be diluted in 100 ml of water or milk. If there are no side effects, then you can increase the dose, or rather, switch to taking a 20% or even 30% solution.
The course of therapy lasts 3-4 weeks - this time is usually enough. If we are talking about the treatment of chronic intestinal colitis with folk remedies (in this case, propolis), then after 2-3 weeks the course can be repeated again - this will ensure maximum results.
By the way, propolis solution is also used for enemas. Of course, this medicine is prepared in water: 4 g of propolis is poured into 100 ml of chilled, boiled water and infused in a glass jar for 24 hours, after which it is filtered through gauze or a fine sieve. First you need to perform a regular enema with water or a decoction of medicinal herbs - this will help cleanse the intestinal walls. Only after this a propolis solution is injected into the rectum. It is better to carry out the procedure at night, before going to bed.
Antimicrobial agents for colitis
Treatment of intestinal colitis with medications begins with the prescription of antimicrobial drugs. Doctors have an extensive list of remedies for colitis at their disposal:
- sulfonamides;
- nitrofurans;
- quinolones;
- antibiotics.
Treatment of colitis with medications aims to eliminate the cause of inflammation (pathogenic and opportunistic microbes). Each type of microbe is sensitive to a specific drug. Therefore, to select the most effective remedy, an analysis of the sensitivity of the bacterial flora to medications is carried out.
Sulfonamides
Therapy with Fthalazol, Ftazin, Sulgin is carried out for ulcerative colitis, dysentery, and E. coli contamination. The tablets are slowly absorbed from the intestines when taken orally, creating a high concentration of antimicrobial agent. Sulfonamides are contraindicated for pregnant women, nursing mothers, children under 3 years of age, and people with kidney problems.
Nitrofurans
The antibacterial activity of nitrofurans extends to Giardia, Shigella, Clostridia, Salmonella, and Vibrio cholerae. Enterofuril capsules will help with antibiotic-associated colitis. They suppress the development of clostridia, the causative agents of pseudomembranous colitis. Enterofuril is approved for children from 1 month in the form of a suspension. 200 mg capsules are prescribed to adults 4 times a day for a week. Pregnant and lactating women are recommended to use according to compelling indications.
Quinolones are a relatively new group of antimicrobial agents. Microorganisms have not yet developed resistance to quinolones. Drug treatment of colitis with this group of drugs eliminates salmonella, shigella, cholera, and staphylococci. Nolicin, Sophasin, Medociprin are used in the treatment of chronic colitis.
Antibiotics
Antibiotics for colitis are needed with a broad spectrum of action. A new generation of drugs is polymyxins. Polymyxin B is taken to eliminate Salmonella, Shigella, Klebsiella, and cholera. Treatment of colitis in adults with Polymyxin B occurs in a hospital setting.
For home antibiotic therapy, the doctor prescribes:
- Levomycetin - helps get rid of acute and chronic inflammation caused by E. coli, salmonella, streptococci, staphylococci. The medicine is taken half an hour before meals 3 times a day. The course of treatment is 8 days. Children under 2 years of age, expectant and nursing mothers are not prescribed.
- Neomycin is a drug from the group of aminoglycosides. When taken orally, it is poorly absorbed, affecting mainly the microflora in the intestines. Neomycin is used by prescription due to the large number of side effects.
- Alpha-Normix - the medicine eliminates the overgrowth of pathogenic bacteria, since almost everything remains in the small and large intestine. It is possible to treat intestinal colitis in women during pregnancy and lactation. Adults and children over 12 years of age are advised to take 1 tablet every 8 hours. An antibiotic is used for a week.
Treatment of colitis with medications, especially antibiotics, occurs under the supervision of a gastroenterologist. The dosage of drugs, the duration of treatment for colitis, and the selection of effective medications are carried out strictly individually. Unsystematic use of antibiotics threatens to complicate the inflammatory process with antibiotic-associated colitis (AAC).
How to use mumiyo for colitis?
If we consider the treatment of intestinal colitis using traditional methods, then we cannot fail to mention mumiyo - it can be administered rectally, but traditional healers recommend taking the remedy orally.
For therapy, a 1% solution is used. To prepare it, you need to dilute 0.1 g of mumiyo in 10 ml of water (you can immediately prepare a large volume, but it is important to follow the proportions). Every day, patients take a tablespoon of solution.
Such treatment helps relieve inflammation, eliminate pain and speed up the recovery process of the intestinal mucous membranes. Patients note that within a week such unpleasant symptoms as belching, diarrhea, heartburn, and heaviness in the abdomen disappear.
The course of treatment lasts 30 days. It is worth noting that sometimes mumiyo has a bad effect on the state of the intestinal microflora - that is why during therapy it is necessary to include fermented milk products in the diet.
Chronic intestinal colitis: symptoms and treatment
Drug treatment of chronic colitis is prescribed by a gastroenterologist after a preliminary examination.
Treatment of chronic colitis with folk remedies will also help alleviate the patient’s condition - it is more gentle, since only medicinal herbs are used as ingredients.
In any case, before starting treatment for chronic colitis at home, consult your doctor.
Chronic colitis (CC) is a chronic inflammatory-dystrophic lesion of the colon, accompanied by impaired motor, absorption and secretory functions of the intestine.
Symptoms of chronic intestinal colitis
Patients usually complain of the following:
- disturbance of stool, tendency to constipation or diarrhea, sometimes change from constipation to diarrhea, unstable stool (in this case, insufficient bowel movements are noted, stool is often mixed with mucus);
- for pain that is periodic, aching, localized in the lower abdomen or along the large intestine, which intensifies after eating and during defecation;
- for bloating, rumbling, a feeling of fluid transfusion, nausea, belching, bitterness in the mouth, false urge to defecate.
- Also symptoms of chronic colitis are loss of appetite, sleep disturbance, irritability, etc.
Diagnosis based on symptoms, treatment of chronic colitis and regular monitoring are carried out by a specialist doctor.
Collection of herbs for intestinal colitis
Treatment of chronic colitis with folk remedies is often used in addition to medication, and is less often used as an independent treatment. Collection No. 5 should be added to the prescribed treatment. And depending on the form of colitis with diarrhea, add additionally:
Serpentine (root). Potentilla erecta (rhizome). Burnet (rhizome). St. John's wort (herb). Calendula (flowers). Chamomile (flowers). Yarrow (herb).
Dose 0.25-0.5 teaspoon - 0.5 l, preferably drink warm 3 times 10-20 minutes before meals, the fourth time before bed. And cocktails that consist of a mixture of infusions.
A cocktail of herbs for colitis is prepared from tincture of peony - 20 ml, hawthorn - 20 ml, valerian - 30 ml, mint - 20 ml, calendula - 20 ml, wormwood - 20 ml, motherwort - 20 ml, belladonna - 5 ml.
If you have glaucoma, do not add belladonna tincture, it is contraindicated for you.
A cocktail for the treatment of chronic colitis with herbs is prescribed from 1 to 8 drops 6 minutes before the herbal infusion 3 times a day in 1 tablespoon of water for 4-6 weeks. Then take a mixture of tinctures of cyanosis and skullcap in equal amounts, 1-10 drops 3 times a day 3 minutes before infusion of herbs in 1 tablespoon of water for 4-6 weeks.
For chronic colitis with constipation, additionally add to collection No. 5:
Oregano (herb). Dill (seeds). Immortelle (flowers). Buckthorn (bark).
To this collection of herbs for colitis, after 10-14 days, if there is no effect, add: peppermint - 20-30, joster fruit - 30-50. Dose 0.25-0.5 teaspoon - 0.5 l. The course of treatment is from 3 to 6 months.
Treatment of chronic intestinal colitis with herbs
You can also use herbal cocktails, which consist of a mixture of tinctures.
The first cocktail in the treatment of intestinal colitis with herbs is prepared from tincture of peony - 20 ml, hawthorn - 20 ml, valerian - 30 ml, mint - 20 ml, calendula - 20 ml, wormwood - 20 ml, motherwort - 20 ml, belladonna - 5 ml ( If you have glaucoma, do not add belladonna tincture, it is contraindicated for you).
The cocktail is prescribed from 1 to 8 drops 6 minutes before the herbal infusion 3 times a day in 1 tablespoon of water for 4-6 weeks. Then a mixture of tinctures of calamus, elecampane, and steelhead is taken in equal amounts. Drink 1-10 drops 3 times a day 3 minutes before infusion of herbs in 1 tablespoon of water for 4-6 weeks.
If inflammation of the rectum and sigmoid colon is severe, microenemas No. 4 are additionally prescribed. The herbs for intestinal colitis included in this microenema are as follows:
Silver birch (leaf). Oregano (herb). St. John's wort (herb). Calendula officinalis (flowers). Large plantain (leaf). Chamomile (flowers). Common yarrow (herb). Violet tricolor (flowers) 10. Sequence tripartite (grass). Greater celandine (herb). Salvia officinalis (leaf).
Mix the collection and chop. Take 0.5-1 teaspoon of the mixture, pour 80-100 ml of boiling water, leave for 30-40 minutes, strain. Insert into the anus.
The temperature of the infusion should be 37-39 °C. Every day or every other day. The course of treatment is 10-20 microenemas. Ingestion of medicinal herbs for 2-6 months, depending on the severity of the process.
In the presence of a spastic reaction of the sphincter system, if the doctor has not prescribed suppositories with belladonna extract in the morning and at night, anusole, neoanuzole, etc.
In the presence of a pronounced inflammatory reaction in the rectum, additionally suppositories with propolis, methyluracil, posterisan-forte.
A good help for chronic colitis, regardless of stool, but more often for constipation, is to prescribe Hilak Forte 30-40 drops 3 times for 14-21 days or Duphalac 10-15 ml 3 times. If chronic colitis was accompanied by dysbacteriosis, sow the normal flora: “Linex”, “Normospectrum”, 1 capsule 2-3 times a day 20 minutes before meals for 20 days.

Treatment of intestinal colitis with folk remedies: using honey
Propolis is not the only beekeeping product that is used for such a disease. If we talk about traditional methods of treating colitis, then we cannot fail to mention products prepared on the basis of honey.
- Honey water has a beneficial effect on the digestive system (as well as on the entire body). It’s easy to prepare: you just need to dissolve a tablespoon of honey in a glass of water. Naturally, it is better to take a natural product that does not contain preservatives, antibiotics or other chemical additives. Take the medicine three times a day, preferably half an hour before meals. The course of treatment can last from 45 to 60 days.
- Instead of water, you can use fresh apple juice in the same proportion - a tablespoon of honey per glass of juice. Take the product 3-4 times a day. Therapy lasts from 30 to 45 days. If desired, the course can be repeated three or even four times a year.
Treatment of colitis with folk remedies has a positive effect not only on the functioning of the intestines, but also on the condition of the entire body. It has been proven that honey water strengthens the immune system, triggers regeneration processes, and helps fight infection.
Treatment of colitis
Treatment is usually carried out at home. Doctors usually recommend following a diet and taking various medications: antidiarrheals, normalizing intestinal microflora, reducing flatulence, laxatives. The choice of these remedies is strictly individual and depends on the nature of the inflammatory process in the colon, the state of the intestinal microflora, age, concomitant chronic diseases, and the general condition of the body.
Diet for colitis
For severe acute colitis, on the first day it is recommended to drink only plenty of fluids (7 - 8 glasses of hot, strong and not very sweet tea), on the second day - 7 - 8 glasses of warm rice water during the day, infusions of rose hips, quince, bird cherry, jelly blueberries, red wine (Cahors), strong tea (all without crackers). If acute colitis leads to dehydration due to uncontrollable diarrhea, the patient is given special solutions, as for acute intestinal infections. Then, for 1-2 days, 5-6 meals a day are prescribed with liquid, semi-liquid, pureed and cooked in water or steamed dishes, which recommends:
- crackers from premium wheat bread;
- soups in low-fat weak meat or fish broth with the addition of mucous decoctions of cereals and pureed meat, steamed quenelles and meatballs, egg flakes;
- steamed or boiled cutlets, dumplings, souffles, meatballs from lean and lean varieties of beef, veal, chicken and turkey (without skin), rabbit, fish;
- freshly prepared calcined or unleavened mashed cottage cheese and a steam soufflé made from it, 1 - 2 eggs per day, soft-boiled or in the form of a steam omelet and in dishes;
- pureed porridge in water or low-fat broth made from rice, oatmeal or buckwheat or cereal flour;
- tea, especially green tea, decoctions, jelly and jelly from rose hips, dried blueberries, black currants, bird cherry, quince, dogwood, pears, pureed raw apples without peel.
Excluded:
- fresh wheat and any rye bread, pastries;
- soups with cereals, vegetables, pasta, dairy, strong and fatty broths;
- fatty meat, pieces of meat, sausages and other meat products;
- fatty and salted fish, caviar, canned food;
- whole milk and other dairy products, except cottage cheese;
- hard-boiled and fried eggs;
- millet, pearl barley and barley, pasta, legumes;
- any vegetables and snacks, as well as natural fruits and berries, dried fruits, compotes, honey, jam and other sweets;
- coffee and cocoa with milk, carbonated and cold drinks.
In case of chronic colitis, without exacerbation of the disease, a rational (healthy) diet is recommended with the mandatory use of means to normalize the intestinal flora. In case of a sharp exacerbation of chronic colitis with the occurrence of severe diarrhea, nutrition can be structured similarly to nutrition in acute colitis, but no more than 2 - 3 days until the acute phenomena are eliminated. Then they switch to an unprocessed version of the above diet with the gradual inclusion of foods prohibited in the acute period. In the future, rational nutrition is indicated with the exclusion or limitation of foods and dishes that are poorly tolerated by a particular patient and can cause exacerbation of chronic colitis (such products may include milk, legumes, grapes, beer, kvass, potatoes, sauerkraut, as well as fatty, very salty and spicy foods). It is advisable to consume 50-100 g of raw apples, carrots or other raw vegetables and fruits 3-4 times a day before the main meal, chewing them thoroughly.
Therapy with sea buckthorn oil
Many patients resort to treating colitis with folk remedies. The most effective in this case is sea buckthorn oil, which is used for microenemas.
This substance has a lot of useful properties. In particular, it relieves inflammation and accelerates the healing process of ulcers on the colon mucosa. To carry out the procedure, you need to purchase sea buckthorn oil (sold at the pharmacy), a large syringe and a catheter with a tube length of at least 25-30 cm.
First, you need to cleanse the intestinal walls of feces, so before introducing sea buckthorn oil, it is recommended to perform a regular cleansing enema. To do this, you can use decoctions of medicinal chamomile or St. John's wort, which, by the way, also have anti-inflammatory properties.
Next, you need to lie on your left side, draw about 50-60 ml of sea buckthorn oil into the syringe, attach a catheter to the syringe and insert the tube through the anus about 25 cm (10 cm if we are talking about a child), then inject the oil into the cavity large intestine. It is important that the product remains in the intestines for at least a few hours - that is why the procedure is recommended to be carried out before bed.
The course of treatment consists of 30 procedures that must be performed daily. By the way, sea buckthorn oil can be taken orally at the same time - once a day, a tablespoon, about an hour before meals.
Stomach and duodenal ulcers
Peptic ulcer is one of the most common diseases of the stomach and duodenum. The development of ulcers is provoked by the action of hydrochloric acid in the gastric juice, so people with high acidity of the gastric juice are especially prone to this disease. In addition to the aggressive action of gastric juice, the cause of ulcers is a special bacterium, Helicobacter pylori.
The ulcer itself is a defect in the wall of the stomach or duodenum of varying diameters (from 0.2 to 3 cm) and thickness (can cover the entire wall of the stomach or intestines). The ulcer manifests itself as severe heartburn, heaviness in the stomach after eating, pain in the upper abdomen (“in the pit of the stomach”), especially on an empty stomach and at night.
Peptic ulcer disease is a chronic disease that can progress and cause complications - bleeding and diseases of other internal organs.
To prevent peptic ulcer disease from worsening, the patient must adhere to a diet, avoid eating spicy and fatty foods, and avoid anxiety and stress, since nervous shocks provoke the development of ulcers. Along with ulcer treatment, it is necessary to take sedatives. Calendula and preparations made from it have a dual effect - anti-inflammatory and soothing, therefore they are widely used for this disease.

Take 1/2 cup warm 3 times a day 30 minutes before meals.
Herbal decoctions to eliminate symptoms of the disease
Of course, decoctions of various medicinal herbs will help cope with inflammation and other lesions.
- The anti-inflammatory properties of chamomile have been used by humanity for thousands of years. By the way, this is an affordable product - dried medicinal chamomile flowers can be purchased at almost any pharmacy. Pour three tablespoons of raw material into 800 ml of boiling water. After the product has infused, it must be filtered and mixed with 70 g of honey. You need to drink a glass 3-4 times a day. The course of therapy lasts about a month. If we are talking about chronic or complicated forms of colitis, then treatment can be repeated again after a two-week break.
- An alcohol tincture of St. John's wort will be useful. It’s easy to prepare: you just need to pour 40% vodka into the dry raw material in a ratio of 1:5. The product is infused in a dark place for 13 days, after which it is filtered. It is recommended to take 2 or 3 times a day, 45-50 drops.
- A decoction of St. John's wort will also be useful. Pour two tablespoons of dry herb (you can buy it at the pharmacy) into 0.5 liters of boiling water, then keep it on low heat for 12-15 minutes. Next, close the container with a lid and let it brew. Strain the broth and take 50-70 ml three times a day (preferably half an hour before meals).
- You can prepare a very effective, but more complex herbal mixture. Mix 10 g of bird cherry fruits, burnet roots, peppermint grass, alder fruits, licorice roots, fennel and caraway seeds, St. John's wort and chamomile herbs, and knotweed roots. Mix all ingredients thoroughly. Pour two tablespoons of the mixture into 0.5 liters of water. The product should be brought to a boil and left on low heat for 2-3 minutes. Next, the broth is infused and filtered. The medicine is mixed with honey - a tablespoon per glass of liquid. It is recommended to drink 100 ml four times a day.
- When it comes to treating chronic colitis with folk remedies, oat grains are rightfully considered the most effective, as they help with various forms of inflammation and restore intestinal function. The grains must first be washed and dried, then ground in a coffee grinder to flour. Place two tablespoons of flour in a thermos and pour 500 ml of boiling water. The product must be infused for three hours. After this, shake the thermos vigorously several times and filter the liquid through cheesecloth. The decoction should be drunk three times a day, 200 ml. Treatment lasts a month. Reviews from patients indicate that oat decoction starts the process of regeneration of mucous membranes, relieves pain and discomfort in the abdomen, saturates the body with beneficial vitamins and minerals, and stimulates the activity of the immune system.
Gastritis
Gastritis is an inflammation of the mucous membrane of the stomach and duodenum caused by poor nutrition, the use of antibiotics and other potent drugs. The causes of gastritis can be chemical and mechanical damage to the mucous membrane, as well as dysbacteriosis.
There are acute and chronic gastritis. Acute gastritis can spread not only to the surface of the gastric mucosa, but also affect the muscle layer. The nature of the pain depends on this. The stronger the pain, the feeling of heaviness in the stomach, the greater the depth of the inflammation. Symptoms of acute gastritis: pain in the pit of the stomach, heaviness in the stomach, nausea, dizziness, weakness, sometimes vomiting and diarrhea, as well as pale skin, a white coated tongue, excessive salivation or dry mouth.
Chronic gastritis is a constant inflammation of the gastric mucosa, which either worsens or subsides. Just like acute gastritis, its chronic form is caused by long-term errors in nutrition, consumption of rough or too hot food, passion for strong drinks, poor chewing, dry food, as well as deficiency of protein, iron and vitamins, some diseases such as anemia, gout , infectious diseases.
Symptoms of chronic gastritis: a feeling of pressure and fullness in the epigastric region after eating, heartburn, nausea, sometimes dull pain, loss of appetite, unpleasant taste in the mouth, sometimes sour belching and constipation.
Treatment of gastritis
* Take 1 tbsp. a spoonful of calendula, chamomile and yarrow flowers. Mix the ingredients thoroughly. In the evening, pour 1 tbsp into a thermos. spoon of the mixture and pour 1 cup of boiling water over it. Leave to brew overnight. In the morning, strain the infusion.

Other traditional medicines
If we are talking about the treatment of chronic colitis with folk remedies, then you can resort to the help of some other medicinal plants.
- Intestinal spasms and discomfort in the abdomen can be dealt with using a decoction of alder cones. It’s easy to prepare: pour a tablespoon of pine cones into a glass of cold water, then bring the liquid to a boil and keep it on low heat for 15 minutes. Allow the broth to cool, then strain and add boiling water so that you end up with 250 ml of medicine. The product should be drunk instead of tea - to improve the taste, you can add sugar, jam, honey, lemon juice.
- Blueberry tincture will also be useful. To prepare it, you need 3 tablespoons of blueberry fruits and chopped fresh leaves of the plant, pour 600 ml of boiled water. Close the container, leave for 10 hours, then filter. Divide the prepared volume of medicine (about three glasses) into 3-4 doses and drink throughout the day.
- Sage infusion, which has pronounced anti-inflammatory and regenerative properties, also has healing properties. Pour two tablespoons of dry sage herb into two glasses of boiling water and brew. Next, you need to let the product brew - you can strain it after 2 hours. Traditional healers recommend taking 100 ml three times a day.
- During periods of exacerbation, some experts advise eating apples. First, of course, they need to be washed, peeled and pureed (using a blender or fine grater). It is recommended to eat a kilogram of apples per day, dividing this amount into 4-5 meals.
Other methods
There are other, very effective recipes based on medicinal herbal remedies:

Proper nutrition during illness
We have already reviewed the main methods of alternative treatment for colitis. The methods described above can speed up the healing process, but only in combination with medications and an appropriate diet. Proper nutrition is very important in this case, so its basic principles are worth studying.
- It is very important to exclude from the diet foods that irritate the mucous membrane of the large intestine. Doctors recommend avoiding spices, marinades, smoked meats, herbs, bran, peanuts, pumpkin, sour, salty and sweet foods.
- You also need to minimize the consumption of milk, cabbage, prunes and other products that enhance intestinal motility and have laxative properties.
- It is recommended to eat fractional meals - 5-7 times a day, but in small portions.
- Food needs to be boiled or steamed. It is better to puree dishes before eating.
- It is important to maintain a drinking regime, since dehydration develops very quickly against the background of colitis.
What else do you need to know?
It is important to understand that treatment of intestinal colitis with medications and folk remedies is at the same time the most optimal. In the absence of timely and adequate therapy, the inflammatory process in the intestines will only spread, which can lead to the formation of ulcers, adhesions, and the development of other complications. Any homemade medicine should be taken only with the permission of the attending physician.
What do patients themselves say about such therapy? What reviews do people leave about the treatment of colitis with folk remedies? The most effective methods (for example, enemas with sea buckthorn oil, various anti-inflammatory decoctions, propolis solution) really help cope with the main symptoms. After just a few days, many people notice significant improvements - digestion processes are normalized, flatulence and discomfort in the stomach disappear.
But, again, home remedies can only be used as aids - you should not refuse to take medications under any circumstances. If treatment of colitis with folk remedies leads to some deterioration, then home therapy should be stopped and consult a doctor.
